Taiheiyo Kouhatsu Group's Basic Policy on Sustainability

Taiheiyo Kouhatsu Group actively engages in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) activities and accordingly strives to help achieve related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with the aim of giving rise to a sustainable society (sustainability) and increasing the Group's medium- to long-term corporate value.

Initiatives related to ESG Activities

Environment (E): We engage in environmentally-sound business practices.

  • 1. We seek to expand our business of handling wood pellets, palm kernel shell (PKS), and other such environmentally-sound biomass fuels with the aim of facilitating decarbonization.

  • 2. We conduct proof-of-concept trials that entail blending greenhouse gases (CO₂) and coal ash to achieve mineralization for re-use as filler to restore former coal mining sites.

  • 3. We conduct proof-of-concept trials that involve achieving mineralization (underground sequestration) of greenhouse gases (CO₂) and then extracting hydrogen to serve as a clean energy source.

  • 4. We strive to help conserve biodiversity through efforts that involve carrying out forest thinning and afforestation work, preventing deforestation, and restoring woodlands that have been subject to degradation.

Related SDGs

Social (S): We improve workplace environments and contribute to our local communities.

  • 1. We encourage employees to take childcare and nursing care leave, annual paid leave, and other forms of time off.

  • 2. We create career settings conducive to long-term employment by appropriately adhering to Japan's Act on Stabilization of Employment of Elderly Persons.

  • 3. We introduce secondary job and dual employment programs with the aim of providing support for flexible working arrangements.

  • 4. We hold a summer festival on a consistent basis in Hokkaido's Kushiro City, the birthplace of Taiheiyo Kouhatsu Group.

  • 5. We cooperate with local municipalities and enterprises in efforts to revitalize Hokkaido's economy.

Related SDGs

Governance (G): We seek to achieve sustainability of our business by strengthening our risk management practices.

  • 1. We rigorously identify risks, establish regulations and other such guidelines to effectively cope with increasingly severe natural disasters, and thoroughly ensure that our officers and employees are familiar with such regulations and other such guidelines.

  • 2. We systematically implement compliance education throughout the Group.
